Hi guys, I have a question.
Say I wanted to sorta do a little performance to my friends of a basic thing with hypnosis, I was planning on sticking somebodies foot to the floor, would a rapid induction be better than a long winded one? I have tried a suggestibility test on most of my friends and one person had outstanding results so I was thinking of doing it on them. Would a rapid induction work on them?
    Thanks From Connor

Connor, a rapid induction will usually work well if you approach it with confidence and authority.

If your friend has responded well to suggestibility tests, then it will almost assuredly work on him. Be sure to build expectations. Tell the friend going in--in front of onlookers--that you will soon give him a sudden command to go into trance and that the friend WILL go under, rapidly and deeply.

When you back these statements by adding, "You'll be perfectly safe, you won't fall or anything--but be ready for the fact that you're going to feel very relaxed and VERY good, very quickly."

At that point, the subject has practically hypnotized himself. So when you give the instant induction and say "SLEEP!", not only will your subject go under and be ready for deepeners, but it will look quite stunning to an audience.

Whenever possible while performing, instant inductions are best, as they look the most impressive and also prevent your audience from losing interest as they might during a longer, progressive relaxation induction.

    Best of luck to you!

Very good advice. Though I don't consider myself much of a teacher, I think I have some more I could add to that:

You say that you're doing a performance for some friends. Good on you! As Briz said, instant inductions are great for a performance, they're flash, they're quick, and they keep everyone interested. However, I find that, especially if you're dealing with people who have no hypnotic experience, it's useful to do a little warm up before doing the instant induction. Here's an example of something that I used a lot during the weekend:

Making sure that the volunteers are comfortable, once you've given your pre talk, start telling them to relax. Do this however you want, but I made them pay special attention to their breathing.

"Now, before you go into trance, all I want you to do is get comfortable. Cool, now I just want you to start by taking a nice, deep, cleansing breath, and as you exhale, allow yourself to relax. That's it. All we're doing right now is slowing your breathing down, it's as simple as that. That's right, nice, slow breaths now, really slow your breathing down. Good. Each time you breath out now, you're just going to allow yourself to relax a little bit more, taking nice, slow breaths. Feeling good? Awesome, in a moment I'm going to count down from 10 to 0, and when I reach 0, you're just going to close your eyes and allow yourself to relax completely. 10... 9... 8... nice and slow, 7... 6.. 5... each breath relaxing you more and more, deeper, 4... 3... 2... 1... 0 and take a deep breath, close your eyes, and relax..."

All of this could take about a minute, and is in no way essential. However, it serves to get your volunteer into a relaxed state of mind, and also can be considered a form of induction itself. With their eyes now closed, I would move on to having their eyes stuck together, before doing an instant induction. Because they've already gone into trance before the induction, the instant induction itself can be all the more effective.

The key with any hypnosis, as we all know, is confidence. If you can project to your friends that you ARE the hypnotist, no matter how much doubt there may be lingering at the back of your mind, they will go into trance and you will be able to give them a powerful experience.

I look forwards to seeing your video :)

No problem that will probably help. However I hypnotised one of my friends the other day and they said they would be my subject but I will try that aswell.
    Thanks

if you want your subject to get into deep level of trance i suggest the dave elman induction. takes 1 to 4 minutes max and the subject will alredy be highly suggestible and deeply hypnotised before the deepener.
i suggest you get :the dave elman induction" by sean michael andrews
